the kazakhstan-china oil pipeline (atasu-alashankou), kazakhstan's first pipeline directly connected to the market without passing through any third country, was completed in december 2005 and put into commercial operation in july 2006. the construction of the atasu-alashankou section has traveled through a marsh for 34 kilometers, a desert area for 150 kilometers and a bold windy area for 83 kilometers, and also crossed four rivers, nine highways and two railways.
annual oil delivery via kazakhstan-china crude pipeline has exceeded 10 million tons for five consecutive years since 2010, and by the end of 2014, the accumulative oil import was more than 75 million tons.
cnpc and kazmunaygaz signed an agreement on the construction and operation of the phase ii kazakhstan-china oil pipeline in august 2007, and its construction was started in december 2007.
in december 2008, the main part of the phase ii kazakhstan-china oil pipeline (kenkiyak-kumkol) was welded and became operational in october 2009.
